5 words into one story
A tough cohesion drill. Hit the button for five random words with no repeats. The task: build one coherent story out of them in 90 seconds — every word has to be spoken and woven into the plot, not just listed off.
How it works
- Hit "Give me 5 words" for a set of five nouns, all different.
- Read them silently, give yourself 3–5 seconds to sketch the main thread.
- Start the timer (90 or 120 sec) and begin the story. Use all five words — keep mental track of which ones you've hit.
- When time's up, check whether you fit all five in. Hit "Another 5 words" and repeat.
Tips
- Don't try to use the words in order. Tell a plot that naturally pulls all five in.
- If a word comes up really odd, make it a character's name, a place, or an item in a pocket. You don't have to use it literally.
- The hardest are abstract nouns ("longing," "hope," "ritual"). Anchor them to a concrete scene instead of explaining them head-on.
- Great retelling practice: summing up a meeting, a match, or a movie so every key moment gets mentioned is the same task.
Other exercises
Random word + timer
Press the button for a noun. Talk about it for 30, 60, or 90 seconds without pausing.
Scenario prompt
A random role-play situation — act it out with your voice. From "explain memes to an alien" to "talk a dragon into a tournament".
Gibberish
Act out a scene in a made-up language: meaning doesn't matter — it all rides on emotion, intonation, and body.
Common questions
How much time should I take per round?
Ninety seconds by default — the sweet spot for five words. Once it comes easily, switch to 120 and try telling it in more detail.
What if one word just won't fit the plot?
Make it the twist — a sudden object in the hero's hand, a line of dialogue, or the last word of the story. The "odd" word often gives the most vivid scene.
Can two people compete?
Yes: one person hits the button and starts the timer, both look at the screen and take turns telling a story from the same set of words. Compare whose plot came out livelier.
