GTA 6 price: editions and pre-order

Updated:

Pre-orders for GTA 6 opened on June 25, 2026 — in the PlayStation Store, the Microsoft Store and the Rockstar Store. There are exactly two editions, and no $300 collector’s box with a statue in it.

Editions and prices

EditionPriceWhat you get
Standard Edition$79.99the full game
Ultimate Edition$99.99the game + exclusive content for Jason and Lucia

Per the official description, the Ultimate Edition adds a set of exclusive vehicles (an SUV, a sports car, a boat, a motorcycle, a pickup and even a kayak), a pair of revolvers, a signature weapon for each protagonist, and access to exclusive clothing stores plus a barber shop and a tattoo parlor with more than 50 designs.

Worth being clear about: that is cosmetics and vehicles. The story, the map and all the core content are identical in Standard and Ultimate. What that same $79.99 turns into once you multiply it by tens of millions of copies — what the game cost Rockstar and what it will earn — I worked out separately.

The pre-order bonus — Vintage Vice City Pack

Anyone who pre-orders or simply buys the game before November 20, 2026 gets the Vintage Vice City Pack:

  • a two-tone 1955 Vapid Stanier plus a personal garage at Shore Court in Ocean Beach;
  • retro outfits for the leads: a pastel linen suit for Jason and a red sequin dress for Lucia;
  • a tropical weapon finish — a nod to Tommy Vercetti’s famous shirt from the 2002 Vice City.

So the “pre-order bonus” is a soft one: it is almost impossible to miss, since buying on day one still counts.

The physical edition: no disc, a code in the box

GTA 6 does have a boxed edition, but there is no disc in it. Rockstar spelled out what ships: its pre-order post of June 24, 2026 says the physical version contains a download code inside the box and goes on sale on November 12 — so that the code can be used to pre-load in time.

What that means in practice:

  • You download everything. Nothing installs from the box. There is no official size; an honest estimate is 150–200 GB plus a 30–50 GB day-one patch, and the free space you need on a Series S or PS5 is on the launch-day page.
  • No disc drive needed. The box works for PS5 Digital and Xbox Series S owners like for anyone else, as long as the platform matches.
  • Pre-loading works with the box too. It comes out on the day pre-loading opens, and Rockstar names that as the reason for the date.
  • The bonus applies. Everyone who buys the game before November 20 gets the Vintage Vice City Pack, and Rockstar’s wording does not exclude the box.
  • The box is PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. The game ships on this generation alone, PS4 and Xbox One get nothing, and there is no announced PC version — the details are on the platforms page and on the PC page.

Still not announced: whether the Ultimate Edition comes boxed or only Standard does, whether there will be a physical Xbox release (so far only PS5 shows up at retail), and what the box costs. The June 25 date and the prices above belong to the digital stores.

The box makes sense if you are giving the game as a gift and want something to hand over, if you collect boxes for the shelf, or if you would rather pay at a regular shop than with a card in a digital store.

It does not if you hoped to save bandwidth — you download everything anyway — or if you planned to resell the game after finishing it: the code redeems once and stays on the account.

One more thing worth knowing

  • The prices are in US dollars. Rockstar quotes $79.99 and $99.99; the number on your receipt comes from your region’s PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store or Rockstar Store pricing, so check it in the store itself.

The date and the platforms are on a separate page, and the practical side of launch night — unlock time, pre-load, how much space to free up — is on the launch-day page. And if you’re unsure about pre-ordering blind: I’ll be playing it live at launch, so you can look before you leap.

Frequently asked questions

Which GTA 6 edition should I buy?

If you just want the game, Standard at $79.99 is the whole story and the whole map. Ultimate at $99.99 adds cosmetics and exclusive vehicles, none of which touches the campaign. The Vintage Vice City Pack pre-order bonus comes with both.

Is the Vintage Vice City Pack exclusive to the Ultimate Edition?

No. Everyone who pre-orders or simply buys the game before November 20, 2026 gets the pack, whichever edition they pick.

Where can I pre-order GTA 6?

Pre-orders opened on June 25, 2026 in the PlayStation Store, the Microsoft Store and the Rockstar Store. Prices are quoted in US dollars; what you actually pay depends on your region’s store pricing.

Will GTA 6 be released on disc?

No. There is a physical edition, but the box holds a download code rather than a disc — that is how Rockstar described it on June 24, 2026. The box goes on sale on November 12 so the code can be used to pre-load. No disc drive is needed, so the box works on a PS5 Digital or an Xbox Series S too, as long as the platform matches.

Do I still have to download the game if I buy the box?

Yes, all of it: the box holds only a code and no game data. There is no official install size; an honest estimate is 150–200 GB plus a 30–50 GB day-one patch. The box arrives on November 12, the day pre-loading opens, so you can still download ahead of launch.
