For two years the internet played the same game over and over: it found a woman named Manni L. Perez in credits, in podcasts and in old photographs and decided, in unison, that here she was — Lucia Caminos, the first playable heroine in the history of Grand Theft Auto. In late August 2026, a day after the extended GTA 6 look, the game seemed to be over: a post appeared on Instagram with one short line, “yes… that’s me,” and within a day dozens of outlets and thousands of fan pages had carried it.

She didn’t write it.

The account behind the “admission” turned out to be an impostor: created in 2020, its username changed 16 times, its captions written by AI — and the touching “childhood photo with the family” generated by AI as well. On August 30 the account disappeared along with all of its posts. And on September 1 the real one came back — that same @mannilperez with no dot, now with a blue checkmark. There isn’t a word about Lucia in it.

What happened: ten days by the date

• August 27. Rockstar drops the extended GTA 6 look — twenty-six minutes of gameplay. Lucia speaks on screen longer than in everything before it combined, and “whose voice is that” becomes the fandom’s main question again.
• August 28. The @mannil.perez account (with the dot) puts out a series of posts: “Did you recognize Lucia’s voice? Because yes… that’s me,” signed “My voice. My journey,” with the hashtags #GTA6 #GTAVI #ViceCity #RockstarGames. Within a day — tens of thousands of likes and headlines in the vein of “the actress breaks her silence.”
• August 29. The first breakdowns: TheGamer and other outlets show the account can’t be hers. The tells are in the next section.
• August 30. The dotted account disappears entirely. All the “admission” posts go with it — their links now return “this post has been removed” on Instagram.
• September 1. The real @mannilperez returns. The first post is a wry one about stretch marks and a month-old gel pedicure: “I’m back.” Separately, she thanks everyone who reported the AI impostors.
• September 6. The real account has a blue checkmark, over a hundred thousand followers and eight posts — the oldest a family one from last year, the newest about her baby brother. About GTA, Lucia and Rockstar: still nothing. The dotted @mannil.perez is unavailable.

How the impostor was spotted

The tells are worth remembering: there will be more accounts like this before the November 19 release, and the next one will be built more carefully.

• Profile age and username changes. The account was created in 2020, and the name on it had been changed 16 times since. That isn’t “a new account replacing a deleted one” — it’s a bought or repurposed profile, the standard play: take an old page with history so you don’t look like a day-old sock puppet.
• The captions were written by AI. Run through GPTZero, they came back as overwhelmingly machine-generated. Hence the odd smoothness of the posts: “the long days that slowly became part of something bigger” is a sentence without a single detail you could check.
• So were the photos. Hands didn’t match between shots, and the touching “childhood photo with her sister and brother” turned out to be a generated image of a family that doesn’t exist. That post traveled furthest of all — it was the one fishing for sympathy.
• That’s not how you behave under an NDA. An actor who has signed with Rockstar does not post teasers about unreleased gameplay along the lines of “you have no idea what’s coming next.” The studio hasn’t released a single name in years — and the first one certainly wouldn’t be announced by the actress herself in a social post.
• There was no checkmark. The word “Official” in a bio is just text; anyone can type it. The real account, back since September 1, does have the verification badge.

A word about us, too: in the first version of this page, published on August 30, the “admission” already carried the caveat “whether this account is real is a separate question,” and a whole section was devoted to the doubts. The caveat turned out to be warranted. But it’s more honest to say it plainly now: the headlines about “13 years of silence” and “the actress confessed” were false from top to bottom, and we’ve rewritten the page around what’s known today.

The real account: what’s in it

@mannilperez, no dot — the very profile the press linked to for years. Its history of disappearances is easy to trace: she switched comments off long ago, and in the summer of 2025 she deleted the page entirely, worn down by the questions and the Lucia jokes. She has come back and vanished more than once since.

What’s in it now: a blue checkmark, over a hundred thousand followers, eight posts, and the bio “Actor • Martial Artist • Fitness Nerd. Official Manni L. Perez Account (I’m back!)” with a link to her IMDb profile. Not a single mention of GTA 6, Lucia or Rockstar. The most popular post isn’t about the game but about her, and it pulled nearly seventy-five thousand likes: the audience that came for the heroine hasn’t gone anywhere.

We deliberately don’t re-host her photos on our own; we show the post through the standard Instagram embed — a click loads the original straight from the social network. That’s the honest way: you see exactly what’s published on the account, along with the real numbers and comments.

Who is Manni L. Perez

Behind the guess stands a very real actress who’s no newcomer to the craft. Manni L. Perez is a Puerto Rican-American actress from New York. Her filmography includes notable American series: NBC’s Blindspot, Law & Order, Chicago P.D., The Blacklist and Netflix’s Jessica Jones. She describes herself in three words: actor, motion capture, martial arts. That last one isn’t there for decoration: the GTA 6 heroine fights a lot, and Lucia’s physicality is the work of someone who knows how to move on camera.

It was exactly this combination — “actress + mocap + New York” — that made her the prime suspect: GTA 6 was recorded on the East Coast, and Lucia demands precisely that set of skills.

Why everyone decided she’s Lucia

The guess didn’t come out of nowhere and took shape over almost three years:

• The first trailer, December 2023. As soon as Rockstar showed Lucia, fans started hunting for the face and the voice — and landed on Manni L. Perez. The resemblance in looks and timbre seemed too exact to many to be a coincidence.
• Hints in podcasts. Even before the trailers she’d talked more than once about a big motion capture project in New York that she couldn’t discuss because of a strict NDA. Fans put two and two together.
• Prior work with Rockstar. Back in 2019 she voiced a dealer at the Diamond Casino in GTA Online — so the studio had worked with her before. And in one interview a question about GTA visibly threw her; by fans’ reading, they meant that very croupier role, but she took it as being about Lucia.
• Databases. IMDb currently credits her with the role of Lucia Caminos — but that’s not confirmation: entries there are edited by users, and Rockstar has nothing to do with that line.
• Behavior around the account. Every time the noise grew, her Instagram would either be wiped clean, or vanish entirely, or come back. For many that became circumstantial proof: that’s how someone with something to hide under contract behaves. Although it’s also exactly how someone behaves when they’ve simply been hounded with questions.

“13 years of silence”: what’s true and what’s a myth

The neat figure of “13 years of silence” made the rounds together with the fake admission — and it doesn’t survive even a cursory check. The 13 years is the gap between GTA 5 (2013) and GTA 6 (2026) — the length of time fans waited for the new installment, not the length of anyone’s personal secret.

The real story is more modest in its numbers, but no less hard on a human level. She’s been under NDA, judging by her own interviews, since roughly 2021 — that’s about five years of work she couldn’t talk about even to those closest to her, if that work happened at all. And the hardest part started in late 2023, when the first trailer came out: for almost three years strangers on the internet have been arguing over whether it’s her or not, picking her face apart frame by frame and burying her comments — and at some point she simply deleted the account, escaping the attention.

This is what’s worth picturing instead of the round number. You may have finished what could be the main role of your life — and you can’t tell anyone. And outside, meanwhile, thousands of strangers are deciding for you whether you even exist and demanding you confess — until an AI on someone else’s account “confesses” for you, and gets believed more readily than your silence.

What’s confirmed and what isn’t

Let’s lay it out honestly — there are exactly three points.

Rockstar hasn’t confirmed anything. The studio hasn’t named the GTA 6 cast at all — neither Lucia nor Jason. Going by its habits, the names will surface either in a pre-release piece in October or November, or simply in the credits on November 19. That’s exactly how we write about it on the characters page too.

The actress hasn’t confirmed anything. The only “admission” was written by an impostor. The real account is back and silent about the role — which, frankly, is her right: under an NDA you can’t speak, and without one there’s nothing to say.

The guess, meanwhile, hasn’t gone anywhere. Everything that pointed to Manni L. Perez for three years — the looks, the voice, the mocap, New York, the earlier work with Rockstar — is still standing after the fake was exposed. The impostor didn’t disprove the theory; it only faked its ending.

What’s next
