The date is finally here, and it is official. On August 27, 2026 Rockstar is showing “Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look”. The announcement went up in the Newswire on August 6 — one short paragraph, not a single detail about the contents.
The main thing to remember: there are two times, and they are different.

What Rockstar is actually showing
Formally, this is not a trailer. The announcement uses neither the word “trailer” nor the number “3”: the video is called an extended look. No runtime, no description of the contents — over on Netflix the show already has a card with the genre “action” and a one-line synopsis, and that is the whole of it.
The phrase “extended look” is where most of the expectations come from: not a two-minute montage set to a song, but a gameplay demonstration — something GTA 6 has officially never had. Both previous videos were cut like film: in-engine footage, but no HUD, no mechanics on show, not one moment where you can see how the thing actually plays.
To be clear: that is an expectation, not an announcement. Rockstar did not promise gameplay. It promised an extended look.
Why Netflix — and what if you don’t have it
Rockstar and Netflix are calling this a first-of-its-kind partnership. The publisher’s logic is easy to follow: the premiere gets an evening slot on a platform with hundreds of millions of subscribers instead of drowning in the YouTube feed.
If you don’t have a subscription, you lose nothing but six hours. At 9:00 p.m. ET the same video goes up on the Rockstar Games YouTube channel and on rockstargames.com — free, no sign-in, no regional blocks.
The pre-show stream: August 27, 2:00 p.m. ET
On Thursday, August 27 at 2:00 p.m. ET I go live on Twitch — an hour before the premiere. The stream is free and it runs in Russian, so treat it as company rather than commentary if that is not your language.
What the stream looks like:
- 2:00 p.m. ET — start. We rewatch the first two videos and place bets: gameplay or another cinematic, will they name an unlock time, will there be a single word about the PC version.
- 3:00 p.m. — the premiere. It goes out on Netflix, its exclusive; the chat stays put and the first reactions land right here.
- Then we talk it through. What is new on the map of Leonida, what they showed of Jason and Lucia, what the HUD and the mechanics give away, and what any of it changes about the story.
- Questions in chat answered as we go, not at the end.
By the morning of the 28th, with the video sitting on YouTube in the open, this page turns into a frame-by-frame breakdown — the embed, the timings, and a list of what Rockstar showed and what it dodged again.
What we are hoping to see
Going by what has been shown already, and by the logic of a pre-release showcase three months out:
- how it plays — HUD, minimap, shooting, driving, switching between the two leads: everything both previous videos avoided;
- story — how exactly Jason and Lucia are tied together, with acted scenes rather than an atmosphere reel;
- new parts of the state of Leonida beyond the Vice City and coastline we have already seen.
What almost certainly won’t be there: the PC version and the online mode — the first isn’t announced, the second isn’t shipping at launch.
Rockstar hasn’t said how long any of this runs: 20 and 30 minutes are both circulating, and both are unofficial. Where those numbers came from and how long the studio’s past reveals actually ran is in “How long will the GTA 6 Extended Look be?”.
The leak itself handed us a second checklist for the showcase: since 18 August, clips have surfaced showing mechanics Rockstar has never demonstrated officially — the weapon wheel, the sixth wanted star, named radio stations.
