GTA 6 unlocks at local midnight: release times by region and how to play earlier
Published: September 8, 2026
Ten weeks to launch, and for the first time there’s an answer to “what time” — not from Rockstar, but from the release field in the regional PlayStation Store listings. This issue is about what that field says, how much of it to trust, and what it means for your time zone. This piece gets updated: the moment Sony edits the listings or Rockstar names a time of its own, the update lands here, and the table on the launch-day page moves with it.
Local midnight: PS Store listings split the launch into waves by time zone
The GTA VI page in the PlayStation Store carries a release date-and-time field, and it differs from one regional storefront to the next. GTAVice.net and GTA BOOM pulled it on September 7; on the 8th I checked the storefronts myself: the UK listing shows 00:00 UTC on November 19, Turkey 21:00 UTC on the 18th, India 18:30 UTC on the 18th, Mexico 06:00 UTC on the 19th. Every value collapses into one rule — local midnight on November 19 — exactly how Rockstar shipped GTA V and RDR 2.

Nineteen hours separate the first wave from the last. Rockstar hasn’t named a time, and Sony can still edit the field before launch: this is a reading, not an announcement.
Which region opens first: the clock follows your account, not your console
On PlayStation the unlock time follows the region of the account the game was bought on, not where the console physically sits. So an account on an earlier storefront gets the game earlier — India is two and a half hours ahead of Turkey, Turkey an hour ahead of Ukraine, and so on down the table. Which platform and edition to buy in the first place is on the platforms page.
The earliest option is New Zealand, 11:00 UTC on November 18. On Xbox that only takes switching the console’s region in the system settings, since the clock there follows the console rather than the account. On PlayStation it means a separate New Zealand-region account with the purchase made on it, and Sony doesn’t exactly encourage that. Whether it works on launch day won’t be clear until November 18, so I wouldn’t build plans on it.
Pre-load from November 12 — this part is confirmed
Unlike the unlock time, the pre-load date is official: Rockstar has confirmed that digital pre-orders can start downloading on November 12, a week before launch, the same on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The file size still hasn’t been announced, and 200–250 GB is the figure to plan for — the estimate and the November 18 checklist are on the launch-day page.
Pre-orders for the limited-edition GTA VI DualSense open on September 10
Sony has shown two DualSense controllers in Vice City colours, white and black. Pre-orders open September 10 at 10:00 local time, with the controllers shipping on November 19 alongside the game; the price is $84.99 or £74.99. The white one goes through PlayStation Direct and retailers worldwide, the black one through PlayStation Direct and select retailers. If you’re tallying up the whole launch bill, that’s another line for the price page.
What comes next
Three things could change the table: Rockstar naming a time itself, Sony editing the storefront field, or the Microsoft Store showing its own. I check all three on a schedule, and this issue gets extended as details firm up — while the latest version of the table always lives on the launch-day page. The date itself hasn’t moved: November 19, 2026, details on the release-date page. The GTA VI marathon on my channel starts a day earlier — November 18 at 11:00 UTC, with the first wave that opens.
