Olden Era Dungeon PvP guide — double strikes, Triumvirate stances, tempo

Updated: May 25, 2026

Dungeon in Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era is the faction of tempo and stat swings. Every unit has two attack styles, the signature faction skill Triumvirate’s Strength boosts a hero stat right inside a round, and Infiltrators and Onyx Dancers push extra “style” damage as their bread-and-butter.

In PvP, Dungeon closes games on medium distance: by week 4 you need the full T1-T4 roster with three building upgrades and you must have proven tempo — otherwise magic factions out-curve you.

Win condition: the stance cycle

Triumvirate’s Strength is picked every round — the hero gets a bonus to one of three stats: Attack, Defense, or Spell Power. A good player switches stances based on what the round demands.

Attack stance
Bonus to hero Attack — damage buff to every stack this round
🛡
Defense stance
Bonus to Defense — incoming damage reduction this round
Spell stance
Bonus to Spell Power — for direct magic or buff duration

Top Dungeon heroes in PvP

The mage with a two-sided magic modifier

Zakron does in Dungeon what Blackhorn does in Schism: +10% damage from his spells and −10% damage from enemy spells, plus another ±1% per 2 hero levels. By level 20 — +20% / −20% = a 40% magic gap. Starting Sorcery stacks on top of this, giving a magic build a foundation without needing a school skill first.

The hydra handler

Typhona leads the “hydra style” of Dungeon PvP: +1 hydra growth in every city, and hydras in her army gain +1 Speed and Initiative, +20% HP, +1 ATK/DEF per hero levels. Hydras are T6 and hit every adjacent hex at once, which breaks dense formations.

Dungeon army

A standard T1-T7 lineup with emphasis on style attacks T1-T3 and T6 hydras in the late game.

TierUnitRole
T1TroglodyteBlind, immune to blindness/fear — cheap T1 blocker.
T2InfiltratorDual attack style, style hit +50% damage with the law.
T3Onyx DancerFast, style hit, +ATK/DEF from the law.
T4MinotaurHeavy melee, horns break the line.
T5MedusaRanged with a Gaze — petrifies the target.
T6HydraMulti-head melee with no retaliation — the win condition.
T7Cave DragonLate-game super unit.

Signature unit

Key spell

Zakron is built around direct magic damage — Primal Magic plus Expert Thaumaturgy gives two large spell casts per round.

Skill priority

For both heroes (Zakron the magic-focused and Typhona):

  1. Triumvirate’s Strength → Expert. Starting skill, raises Triumvirate’s cap.
  2. Thaumaturgy → Advanced minimum (+75% second-cast cost; Expert is +50%).
  3. Sorcery → Expert. Stacks with Zakron’s two-sided magic modifier.
  4. Primal Magic → Expert. Chain Lightning and Armageddon — the main damage source.
  5. Wisdom → Advanced minimum. Access to Daylight Magic for Blessing/Haste via Thaumaturgy.
  6. Logistics → Basic/Advanced.

For Might heroes (if you play Rhea or another “physical”): swap Thaumaturgy and magic for Offense, Defense, and Luck (especially with Rhea — her specialization stacks with every Luck point).

Law priority

We lean on Dungeon’s signature accelerator law early.

PhaseLawCostWhy
Day 1Resource Riches I (T0)1+2500 gold, +5 wood/ore.
Day 2-3Leaders of the Nation (T0)2+10% law points to all heroes — pays for itself in a week.
Week 1Dungeon Masters I (T0)3+4 T1 growth, foundation for Infiltrators.
Week 1-2Elite Infiltrators (T1)3+50% style damage + 2 HP.
Week 2Tax Collectors (T1)2+250 gold per day.
Week 2-3Dungeon Masters II + III (T1)3+3+4/+2 T2-T3 growth.

Week 1-2 opener

Dungeon is “hero-centric” — the main hero farms levels on neutrals while the second hero collects city growth and ferries reinforcements forward.

Day 1-2
Buy Resource Riches I and Leaders of the Nation. Main hero pushes onto the map; second hero waits for the growth tick.
Day 3-4
Pick Dungeon Masters I and the T1 upgrade. Main hero clears neutrals in one direction.
Day 5-7
Second hero collects growth and runs to main. Before week end — Mage Guild upgrade to Tier 2.
Week 2
Elite Infiltrators + T3 dwelling (medusas). Main hero hits level 6-8 and unlocks Thaumaturgy.
Week 3+
T6 dwelling (hydras). At this point Zakron throws Chain Lightning + a second cast from Daylight Magic. Game closes.
